George Toriello sent this information on Jacob Demarest on December 20, 2018 using the information from the grave marker to help find personal and military records. 

Jacob Demarest was born on December 3, 1830 in New York City.  The 1880 Federal Census tells us he was living in Washington Township of Bergen County, New Jersey at the time.  What the boundaries of Washington Township was at the time, I do not know, but worth checking out. 

        Jacob Demarest was in the military during the Civil War as a Private with Company ‘A’ 22nd Regiment New Jersey Volunteers.  Jacob Demarest was listed as a member of the Post 52 G.A.R. organization.  On November 28 1893, as his grave marker states and the records George Toriello researched, Jacob Demarest died and is buried in New Barbados Township, New Jersey which is what Hackensack and parts of the surrounding areas of River Edge and New Milford was called. 

        Jacob Demarest would have been 31 years old if he served at the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861.  Jacob Demarest died at the age of 63.
